Applying for Financial Aid

Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to apply for all Title IV financial aid (which includes grants, loans, work study) and even some scholarships. This form is available either on the web (www.fafsa.ed.gov) or from your local high school, community college or area university. Renewal applications are mailed to most students who received a Student Aid Report (SAR) for the previous year. In order for your application information to be released to Mt. Hood Community College, you must list the MHCC code 003204 on the form. If you complete a paper application, mail it in the pre-addressed envelope provided. There is no fee for applying.

After you send the application to the processor, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR). If you filed the form electronically, you will receive it via email in about 1-2 weeks. If you mailed in a paper application, you will receive the SAR in 4-6 weeks. Watch a short How To video at the website www.finaid.org/fafsa/gvideo.phtml.

Priority Deadlines for 2007-08

April 1: Submit FAFSA or Renewal Application to the processor.

May 1 or until Oregon Grant funds are gone: Submit FAFSA or Renewal Application before this date to be considered for State aid.

June 14, 2008: MHCC must receive your valid Student Aid Report by the last day of spring term in order to consider your financial aid eligibility.

Why are these deadlines important? These deadlines determine which students will be considered for grants, work study, and lower interest loans. The best aid opportunities go to early applicants. Some forms of aid are available throughout the year, but applying early is most often the best rule to follow.
