Student Employment ~ Education that pays
The Student Employment program is located in the Financial Aid Office. If you want a job on campus, you will need to contact the Program Coordinator, Cat Parish, at 503-491-7424. Her email address is parishc@mhcc.edu.
There are two kinds of student workers on campus:
Federal Work-Study (FWS): FWS employees are paid from their FWS award that is part of their financial aid package. You must apply for financial aid and go through the verification process to become eligible for FWS.
Student Aide (SA): SAs do the same jobs as FWS, but they are paid out of departmental funds. There are very few SA jobs on campus.
To locate a job on campus, first check the JobLists on this website. If you find a job you’d like to apply for, you may call the employer to make an appointment. NOTE: Do not call for a FWS job if you do not have FWS—those jobs are for FWS ONLY. You can also visit the different offices on campus and ask for work. Sometimes MHCC staff members will create a job just to suit your skills and interests. Sometimes those jobs are created for SAs.
Before starting any FWS or SA job either on-campus or at approved off-campus locations, you must complete the Student Employment Orientation. Contact Cat Parish to make an appointment to complete your hiring paperwork.
