Steps to Success

The Steps to Success Program, currently in its thirteenth year of operation, provides comprehensive educational, social, workforce development services to families receiving TANF benefits. This enables them to gain qualifications which lead to economic self sufficiency. This program is a collaborative partnership between Mt. Hood and Portland Community Colleges, Oregon Adult and Family Services (AFS), Oregon Employment Department, WorkSystems Inc, and other state and local community action organizations. Steps to Success is a designated One Stop for East Multnomah County.

STS Services include:

  • Adult Basic Education/GED Preparation
  • One Stop Career Center
  • Workforce Development Workshops
  • Short term customized training
  • Labor Market Information
  • Career and skill assessment
  • Career counseling
  • Job Placement Services
  • Post-Employment counseling and skill enhancement training
  • Retention services for employees and businesses
  • Specialized services for teen parents
  • Specialized services for non-native speakers of English

Adult and Family Services:

  • TANF benefits
  • Food Stamps
  • Oregon Health Plan
  • Support Services for eligible families
