Reading content will expose students to a variety of occupational information in high-demand, high-wage job sectors in Oregon, specifically, three major occupational areas: health care, manufacturing industries and sales/service industries. The GED subject areas of science, social studies, and literature are also presented.

This course teaches effective strategies and tactics directly applicable to textbook learning. Students develop skill with techniques designed to make them active, thinking participants in the reading/learning process. Focus of instruction is on comprehending textbook material through the recognition, understanding, and application of main ideas and thesis. College-level vocabulary acquisition is also emphasized.

- Su/F/W/Sp This course provides instruction in advanced reading skills and vocabulary development. Emphasis is on improving higher-level comprehension skills and critical and analytical reading skills as they relate to college and life experience.

Community Radio Broadcasting
Have you ever thought of being a radio DJ? Do you love jazz and blues music? This course opens the door for you to become an on-air personality on public radio station KMHD, located on MHCC's campus. Learn the philosophy and history of public radio, and basic operating techniques for air room operation including microphone, turntable and recorder use, voice training, and FCC record keeping. Learn use of the library and on-air computer use including music research, weather, traffic reporting, and computer music library operation. Course includes classroom and hands-on training on equipment in the air room and production rooms of KMHD.

Work together to learn the mechanics and basic physics required for vehicle construction, as well as layout and design, basic principles of milling wood, joinery, pattern making, blacksmithing and machining. The course will conclude with the assembly of the wagon. Every aspect of this class is applicable to a vocation in the wood working trades as well as most vocations in manufacturing.

Advanced students will receive additional instruction as needed.
