Course Description

Painting III
This course is the third of a three-course sequence where the study of visual language is understood through the manipulation of tools and materials in the painting medium. Students address the fundamental issues of contemporary abstraction in painting, narrative painting and society and issues in painting. Critical thinking is developed through both individual and group critiques addressing the integration of form with content. Students are encouraged to advance the process of self-examination by dealing with diversified subject matter in both objective and non-objective idioms in the creation of a body of work. Both individual and group criticisms, combined with discussions of painting ideology, expand more deeply the students' perceptions of themselves as artists within a historical and contemporary context. Sequential.
