    Guidelines for Part-Time Temporary Instructors

    1. Part-time temporary instructor load shall be:
      1. Up to, and including, 22.5 ILC’s (or equivalent) for any three quarters in one fiscal year;
      2. Up to, and including, 30 ILC’s (or equivalent) for any four quarters in one fiscal year;
      3. The practice of utilizing persons for combined part-time hourly and part-time instruction is discouraged but permissible.  In such instances the total assignment shall be up to, and including, 50 percent of a 100 percent full-time position.
    2. The District will endeavor to acquire an increase in the number of applications by local persons who are both interested and qualified to teach in order to have an available source of applicants from which to choose.
    3. Part-time temporary instructors are expected to follow institutional standards and practices as established in Board policy and College regulations.
      1. A handbook describing the District’s practices and expectations of part-time temporary instructors will be distributed to each person contracted.
    4. A system which assures that a part-time temporary instructor is evaluated on a regular basis in order to ascertain the level of job performance will be maintained.  This system may include student, self, peer and/or administrative evaluations.
    5. The District will make certain that no promise or assurance, implied or otherwise, be made to the part-time temporary instructor that the part-time temporary assignment will produce an undue advantage if and when a full-time position becomes available.
    6. Part-time temporary instructors will be expected to attend workshops only on the recommendation of the Manager.
    7. All part-time temporary instructors shall be properly processed through instructional services and human resources offices.
    8. Part-time temporary instructors are expected to adhere to institutional standards for student evaluation and grading including preparation and submission of grades according to established time schedules and deadlines.
    9. Employment is scheduled on a term by term basis as needed if there are students to warrant a work assignment for that term, or at any time within the term.
    10. Any exceptions to these procedures must be approved by the president.
    11. Part-time temporary instructors are expected to adhere to institutional standards for student evaluation and grading including preparation and submission of grades according to established time schedules and deadlines.
    12. Employment is scheduled on a term by term basis as needed if there are students to warrant a work assignment for that term, or at any time within the term.
    13. Any exceptions to these procedures must be approved by the president.
