Fisheries Technology - After Graduation

The Fisheries Technology program at Mt. Hood Community College is the only program of its kind in the state of Oregon. The program has trained skilled fisheries technicians for over 40 years. More than 50 percent of Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife hatchery jobs are held by Mt. Hood Community College graduates. Here are just a few of the career opportunities available to you after graduation.

Fish and Game Wardens

As a Fish and Game Warden, your daily responsibilities will include patrolling assigned areas by car, boat, airplane, horse, or on foot to enforce game, fish, or boating laws or to manage wildlife programs, lakes, or land. You will also compile and present evidence for court actions.

Biological Technicians

As a Biological Technician, your daily tasks will include conducting research or assisting in conducting research, including collecting information and samples, such as blood, water, soil, plants, and animals. You will also monitor and observe experiments, recording production and test data for evaluation by research personnel.

First-Line Supervisors of Farming, Fishing, and Forestry Workers

In this role, you will review and revise sustainability proposals or policies and provide technical or administrative support for sustainability programs or issues.

Sustainability Specialists

As a Sustainability Specialist, you will monitor workers to ensure that safety regulations are followed, warning or disciplining those who violate safety regulations. You must also observe animals for signs of illness, injury, or unusual behavior, notifying veterinarians or managers as warranted.

Environmental Restoration Planners

As an Environmental Restoration Planner, your daily responsibilities will include collecting and analyzing data to determine environmental conditions and restoration needs. You will also supervise and provide technical guidance, training, or assistance to employees working in the field to restore habitats.

Farmworkers, Farm, Ranch, and Aquacultural Animals

In these roles, your daily tasks will include driving trucks, tractors, and other equipment to distribute feed to animals. You must also inspect, maintain, and repair equipment, machinery, buildings, pens, yards, and fences.
