man working with glass

Glass Workers

Glass workers are also known as glaziers and architectural metal and glass workers. They select, cut, install, replace, and remove all types of glass. MHCC partners with Glazier Local 740 to offer an apprenticeship. Local 740 represents glaziers and architectural metal and glass workers throughout Oregon and southwest Washington.

Your Future as a Glass Worker or Glazier

Glass workers generally focus on one type of project. Residential glazing involves replacing glass in home windows, installing glass mirrors, shower doors, and bathtub enclosures, and fitting glass for tabletops and display cases. On commercial interior projects, glaziers install heavy, decorative room dividers and security windows. Glaziers may also replace storefront windows for businesses like supermarkets, auto dealerships, and banks. For large commercial buildings, glaziers build metal framework extrusions and install glass panels and curtain walls.

Besides working with glass, glaziers also work with plastics, granite, marble, and other similar materials used as glass substitutes. They’re also skilled with films and laminates that improve the durability and safety of the glass. And they may mount steel and aluminum sashes or frames and attach locks and hinges to glass doors.
