Those interested in becoming an Adult Care Home Operator or Resident Manager are required to take an assessment to demonstrate English Competency, and may be required for some caregivers. This test is offered at two Mt. Hood Community College locations:
- Gresham Campus - Testing Services
- Maywood Campus - Community Skills Center
What to Expect
You will be taking a Reading and Listening test, both of which are administered on computer. It will take approximately 75 minutes per test. Please arrive at least 3 hours before closing time to ensure you will have enough time to complete your tests.

How to Register
- You must have an MHCC ID# before you can test. To obtain a number, complete the General Admission Application at least 2 business days before you wish to take your test. Your ID# will
be emailed to you as soon as it is assigned.
- Visit https://my.mhcc.edu/ics/admissions
- Click on General Admission Application.
- Pay your non-refundable testing fee by clicking here. Each test is $5.00 and you must take both tests (reading
and listening). Print your receipt and bring it with you. Effective January 1, 2020 the test fee will increase to $10 per test.
Testing Times
Testing is done on a drop-in basis. Each location has different operating hours, so please be sure to verify the hours associated with your chosen location (to the right).

What happens next?
- You will receive a copy of your test results immediately upon completion
- MHCC will also send a copy of your results to Multnomah County
- Retests, if necessary, are $5 per section.
