The purpose of the one-year Machine Tool Technology curriculum is to provide students with basic skills for entry into machining occupations. Students participating in the program will spend time in study and operation of industrial equipment and tools used by machinists. This includes basic introduction to the setup and operation of CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) lathes and milling machines. The program is designed to offer an introduction to metalworking occupations.

Students are expected to maintain a minimum grade level of "C" on core curriculum classes to progress in the program.

Program Outcomes

At the completion of this program, the student should be able to:

  • Demonstrate and/or describe safe work habits and environmental issues associated with modern manufacturing settings
  • Read, interpret and apply blueprints for the production and inspection of manufactured work pieces
  • Demonstrate the correct application and use of precision measuring equipment commonly found in a manufacturing setting
  • Plan and produce work pieces on a manual drill press to required blueprint specifications using common industry methods
  • Plan and produce work pieces on a manual engine lathe to required blueprint specifications using common industry methods
  • Plan and produce work pieces on a manual milling machine to required blueprint specifications using common industry methods
  • Demonstrate, explain and/or apply CNC program code and machine tools and software to produce work pieces to required blueprint specifications.
