  • Mt. Hood Community College Honors Community Partners at Advisory Appreciation Event

    Gresham, Ore. - More than two-dozen local business and nonprofit leaders turned out for Mt. Hood Community College's annual Advisory Appreciation breakfast and awards ceremony on October 23, 2015, where the college recognized contributions of advisory committee members and awarded two of its key partners for their strong collaborative work with the college.

    "We have a lot of outstanding partners that need to be recognized for all their great work that benefit our students," said MHCC's Workforce Education Coordinator Sue Spencer .

    Advisory Appreciation Event

    In the Large Organization category for companies with 100 or more employees, Marquis Companies was honored for its efforts in partnership with the college. Marquis, which specializes in providing assisted living and at home care for the elderly, was honored for:

    • Actively participating in college advisory committees
    • Working towards establishing a dedicated training unit at MHCC
    • Providing cooperative internships and clinical rotations for MHCC students
    • Hiring MHCC graduates
    • Providing company tours, donating equipment and much more.

    Accepting the award for Marquis Companies was Christine Huston, Education Coordinator for Marquis.

    In the Small Organization category for those with less than 100 employees, the award went to Chris Holden , owner of KCR Manufacturing. Holden and KCR were honored for:

    • Actively participating in college advisory committees
    • Actively referring their employees to MHCC for training
    • Providing employment opportunities for MHCC graduates
    • Participating in the East County STEM group
    • Working to explore new apprenticeship programs with MHCC, and much more.

    Accepting the award was KCR Manufacturing owner Chris Holden.

    This is the third straight year that the Advisory Appreciation awards have been given out, and is part of a larger overall effort of the college to connect with business, industry, non profits and other institutions of education in its strategic efforts to provide additional and enhanced opportunities for learners.
