• Non-Academic Revitalization


  • Overview

    The non-academic revitalization process is designed to ensure we continue to provide strong, robust and relevant programs that respond to the needs of our staff, students and community. While we acknowledge the challenging nature of this work, our interest is in building a fair and data-driven process for how we allocate resources and make decisions regarding our programs.

    The ultimate goal is for all programs to be strong and adequately funded. The process we are following will capture:

    • Quantitative data provided by MHCC's Analytics and Institutional Research (AIR) team and qualitative data provided by managers. Managers with budget authority will complete an online form that includes a list of questions for their area in collaboration with their teams. They will also work with their direct supervisor to ensure clarity on department goals, opportunities and challenges.

    For best results, we are encouraging managers to:

    • Work collaboratively with their direct reports and include a thorough review of their division.
    • Objectively assess the department and identify areas that could be changed to bring about increased effectiveness.
    • Discuss the report with a direct supervisor before submission to ensure the data that is submitted is accurate and understood.

    All information will be reported up to college leadership to be organized into a campus-wide analysis. The leadership team includes, but is not limited to:

    • Vice President of Instruction (VPI) Dr. Alfred McQuarters
    • Chief Operations Officer (COO) Jennifer DeMent
    • Executive Dean of Student Development (EDSD) John Hamblin
    • Executive Director of Resource Development and Communications (EDRDC) Al Sigala

    The data from each non-instructional program and overall impact on students will be used by the division heads and college president to evaluate if programs should be maintained, modified, phased out or have investment to grow.

    Draft initial Non-Academic Revitalization Process sent to the Non-Academic Program Revitalization committee and other stakeholders for review.

    Feedback on process submitted by stakeholders.

    Access to online form and final timeline distributed to managers.

    Communicate non-instructional phase-out decisions.

    Deadline to communicate all other non-instructional program classifications – modify, maintain or grow.
