    Parking and Traffic Citations

What actions may result in a citation?
See Motor Vehicle Enforcement Administrative Regulation for a list of violations that may result in a citation fine or other sanctions.
What are the enforcement times for the parking lots?
All lots are enforced seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
I don't have a vehicle but sometimes borrow my friend's vehicle. If I get a citation, who will get charged?
Parking citations are issued to the registered vehicle owner. Moving violations on campus will be charged to the violator.
What happens if I do not follow the parking regulations?

One or more of the following sanctions may happen:

    • Citation(s) will be issued.
    • Vehicle may be booted or towed at owner's expense.
    • Violations may be referred to local law enforcement agencies for possible criminal charges.
    • Individuals who have been found guilty of three or more violations for the same offense will be charged an additional $50 for the third violation and each violation thereafter. This will be in addition to the standard fine for the violation of which they are found guilty.
    • If any fines remain unpaid, a hold may be placed on student records until all citations and/or charges are paid. A hold on student records will prevent the student from registering for classes or obtaining transcripts.
    • In cases of repeated infractions or violations of such a magnitude as to constitute a serious hazard to people or College property, Public Safety officers will notify the following officials for follow up with administrative actions as appropriate:
      • Student violators will be referred to the dean of student success
      • Employee violators will be referred to the appropriate vice president
How much will I be charged for a citation?
The citation fine for most violations is $25. If the citation is for parking inappropriately in a space designated for disabled persons, the MHCC fine is $100. Please note: The local law enforcement agency may also issue an additional fine for parking in a space designated for disabled persons. Citations may be paid in person by cash or credit card in Student Services (AC 2253).
How much time do I have to pay the citation fine?
You must pay the citation fine within 14 calendar days of the issuance of the citation to avoid incurring additional fines or sanctions.
What happens if I don't pay the citation fine within 14 calendar days of the issuance of the citation?
Failure to pay or appeal the citation within 14 calendar days will result in doubling of the fine. Fines more than $25 not paid within 90 calendar days may be turned over to a collection agency. Unpaid fines will also cause a hold to be placed on your student account which will prohibit you from registering for classes or receiving transcripts.
    Can I appeal my citation?
Yes, you may appeal your citation in writing to the Public Safety office. Appeal forms are located in the Public Safety office (AC 2330) and must be completed within 14 calendar days of the issuance of the citation. The appeal form is available online at CITATION_APPEAL_FORM.pdf
If I disagree with the outcome of my appeal, can I re-appeal the citation committee's decision?
All appeal decisions by the citation review committee are final. Appeals may not be petitioned further. Fines must be paid within 14 calendar days from the date of the notice of the citation committee's decision.
What happens if I don't pay the citation fine?
    • If you do not pay the citation fine, one or more of the following sanctions may occur:

      • Failure to pay or appeal the citation within 14 calendar days will result in doubling of the fine.
      • Individuals who have three or more unpaid citations in an academic year may have their vehicle booted. All fines must be paid before the boot will be removed. An additional charge of $50 will be assessed for the boot removal.
      • If any fines remain unpaid, a hold may be placed on your student record until all citations and/or charges are paid. A hold on your student record will prevent you from registering for classes or obtaining transcripts.
      • Fines more than $25 not paid within 90 calendar days may be turned over to a collection agency.
