Office of the President

  • MHCC President Dr. Debra Derr began her community college career as an adult returning student at Clackamas Community College more than 30 years ago. She has held various positions in community college education, including as professional support staff, faculty and administrator. She has served as a senior administrator in the states of Oregon, Wisconsin and Iowa before returning to Mt. Hood Community College as the eighth president in its 49-year history.

    Dr. Derr has held numerous leadership positions both nationally and on a statewide basis, including: member of the AACC President’s Academy Executive Committee; member of the AACC Commission on Marketing and Communication; president of the National Council on Student Development; board member of the Iowa Student Loan Liquidity Board; board member of the Iowa Innovations Council; and others.

    Dr. Derr holds a BA in Business Administration from Linfield College (OR), a MS in Counseling from Portland State University (OR) and an Ed.D. in Community College Leadership from Oregon State University.

    President's Council

    The President's Council represents the senior administration, which meets with Dr. Derr on a weekly basis to help steer the direction of the college.



    Participatory Governance

    Dr. Derr regularly meets with faculty, staff and student representation to address the needs of the college. The college also has many councils and committees, each with its own membership and focus.
