    What is STEP? What services does MHCC provide?

    STEP is the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) Training and Employment Program. MHCC’s STEP Program provides qualifying MHCC students with: academic navigation; career coaching and resume assistance; some financial assistance for tuition, books and related support services (see list below).

    Are you eligible for STEP?

    You must be currently receiving SNAP benefits of any amount. TANF recipients are not eligible. If your TANF benefits are ending soon, please contact us. You must be interested in pursuing training, job search, and/or education opportunities.

    What can STEP pay for?

    NEW: STEP can pay for Internet access while you’re a MHCC student
    NEW: STEP can provide short-term help with rent & utilities

    • Tuition and books
    • Auto insurance or repairs
    • Clothing for interviews or for training and employment purposes
    • Personal hygiene products
    • Course fees
    • Bus passes or gas vouchers
    • Fees, equipment, or supplies for STEP-related activities
    What does STEP not pay for?

    Previous student loans, mortgages, or legal fees. Medical bills.

    Do STEP funds need to be paid back?

    STEP funds are not a loan and don’t need to be paid back.
