AR 4102: Career and Technical Education Programs

The following is the mission, requirements, and purpose of career and technical education:

  • to provide accessible and affordable quality learning opportunities in response to the needs and interests of the individuals and organizations;
  • to provide quality transfer, career, and lifelong learning programs that prepare students with the knowledge and skills needed for success in an interconnected world; and
  • to advance the State and region’s economic growth and global competitiveness through education, training, and services that contribute to continuous workforce improvement.

The competence of students completing career and technical education shall be evaluated by the same criteria used for all courses and in accordance with specific requirements established by the college.

Advisory Committees
Advisory committees for career and technical education shall be established by the college to assist in maintaining relevant curriculum, technology, equipment, course content, and to serve as liaison with potential employers. The purpose of advisory committees includes:

  • establishing vital partnerships between the college, career education staff, and the local business community;
  • providing input and recommendations to the college regarding trends, employment needs, job placement, and future directions in industry;
  • identifying the need for new programs; and
  • marketing college programs within the community.

Members of advisory committees are appointed in accordance with processes established by the college and should include appropriate program faculty members, employers, and employees in the field for which the program is designed to train students; former and current students; and the dean.

Consistent with federal regulations pertaining to federal financial aid eligibility, the vice president of instruction will ensure that Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) complies with the United States Department of Education’s disclosure requirements for each of MHCC’s gainful employment programs, by disclosing federally mandated information about the programs to prospective students. MHCC shall make the required disclosures available to prospective students in promotional materials and on its website.

The vice president of instruction shall establish procedures to ensure that the college meets these reporting requirements whenever MHCC intends to add a new gainful employment program.
