Art - Program Details

As an art major, you will have many class options to choose from. Courses include drawing, sculpture, basic design, painting, and ceramics. Many students like you pursue careers as art directors, fashion designers, or curators.

Hands-On Learning

As you work toward your art degree, you will be immersed in visual storytelling. You will learn hands-on about the world of art around you. Plus, the Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) art department has a large public gallery which displays many student exhibits throughout the year, as well as local artists.

Program Outcomes

After completing this program you'll be able to:

  • Exhibit competence in visual language through creative art practice.
  • Apply rational and critical thinking skills when developing a project from concept to form.
  • Identify the historical, multicultural and contemporary context they are working in.
  • Articulate ideas expressed in artwork by integrating oral, written and visual communication skills.

The degree mixes ceramics, jewelry making, digital photography, and more, taking a full-time student two years to complete.
