Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - FAQ

Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis, based on meeting the application and admission requirements. The program accepts 30 students each for fall term and spring term start.

No. However, an EMT may learn how to drive an ambulance which requires a valid driver’s license.

IMMUNIZATIONS - Accepted students need to provide vaccination records and/or immunity to the following infectious diseases: Hepatitis B, Polio, Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis, Varicella and COVID-19. Students must also demonstrate they test negative for Tuberculosis (TB). Admitted students need to begin confirming their immunizations as soon as they accept their position in the program.

Criminal background checks and drug screening is required after acceptance. Please note, this drug screening will check for drugs that contain amphetamines, barbiturates, opioids, benzodiazepines, and marijuana.

If you have a criminal history, we strongly encourage you to contact the Oregon Health Authority (971-673-0520 or [email protected]) and inquire about whether or not licensure is possible in your situation. Do not wait until you have completed your education only to find that you may be ineligible for licensure, which is required for employment.

You must pass the NREMT exam before becoming eligible for OR EMT Licensure. You will not be licensed until you complete all requirements of the Oregon Health Authority EMS and Trauma Systems and National Registry of EMTs.
