As a Historian, your daily tasks will include conserving and preserving manuscripts, records, and other artifacts. You will also gather historical data from sources such as archives, court records, diaries, news files, and photographs, as well as from books, pamphlets, and periodicals.

History Teachers, Postsecondary

As a History Teacher, you will prepare and deliver lectures to undergraduate or graduate students on topics such as ancient history, postwar civilizations, and the history of third-world countries. You will also initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.


As an Archivist, you will prepare archival records, such as document descriptions, to allow easy access to information. You will also establish and administer policy guidelines concerning public access and use of materials.


As a Curator, you provide information from the institution's holdings to other curators and to the public and negotiate and authorize purchase, sale, exchange, or loan of collections.

Museum Technicians and Conservators

In roles such as these, you are responsible for determining whether objects need repair, choosing the safest and most effective repair method, and preparing artifacts for storage and shipping.

Middle School Teachers, Except Special and Career/Technical Education

As a Middle School History Teacher, you will prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress and prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
