MHCC Offers ‘The Club’ Steering Wheel Lock
Posted: December 21, 2010
Beginning Jan. 4, the Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) bookstore will offer “The Club” to students and employees for just $12.99, far below the recommended selling price.
“We want to help people protect their cars from theft -- especially older cars that don’t have electronic keys and other prevention devices,” says Julie Godat, bookstore manager. The Club steering wheel lock is effective at deterring theft wherever you park your car, such as the movie theatre, shopping mall, mass transit station and health club.
The bookstore will limit purchases of The Club to two per person. More devices will be ordered if the first shipment sells out.
“Safety is a high priority at MHCC,” says Gale Blessing, director of Public Safety. “Making The Club available at an affordable price for students and employees is just one of the many things we do to maintain a safe environment for learning, working and visiting.”
Unsure about the effectiveness of The Club? Greg Gomez, communications dispatch officer in Safety and Security, offers the following first-person testimonial. “In 2000, my wife and I purchased a brand new 2001 Toyota 4Runner. At the time, we both worked at Mt. Hood Community College, so we parked on campus every day. Much to our dismay, we found that within the first two months of the 2000 fall term, two Toyota 4Runners were stolen from the campus. These acts prompted us to purchase The Club. No doubt due to the presence of The Club in our car, we have not had any type of vehicle theft or break-in.”
