MHCC Offers Opportunity to Become Certified Welder
Posted: November 3, 2011
Mt. Hood Community College has immediate openings in a welding certification training program geared toward people whose primary language is other than English.
A free information session will be held Nov. 15 in room IT 28 in the Industrial Technology building on the Gresham Campus, 26000 SE Stark St. The one-hour meeting will start promptly at 9 a.m.
The welding certification training program is one of three VESL programs at MHCC. VESL (Vocational English as a Second Language) is for non-native speakers of English who have high-intermediate proficiency in reading and speaking and who want to gain job skills rapidly and then seek entry-level employment in their field. In addition to welding, MHCC offers VESL training in Machine Tool Technology and Nursing Assistant.
Participants in the Nov. 15 information session will receive details about the welding certification training program, which runs eight hours per day, Monday through Friday, Dec. 12 – June 16. Tuition assistance and scholarships may be available.
Students learn about blueprint reading, welding, math and industrial safety and often improve their reading, writing, speaking, listening and math skills in the process.
“Students in VESL programs typically have a high rate of success and most complete their training and find employment,” said Steven Storla, MHCC Career Pathways coordinator.
For information about the free information session or to register for the welding certification training program, please contact Angelique Kauffman-Rodriguez, 503-660-1444 or email@example.com, or visit the Web at www.mhcc.edu/cp.
