Here’s Another Reason to Celebrate Fridays – FAFSA

There’s a new meaning to TGIF at Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC).
Sure, Fridays are always cause for celebration, but Thank Goodness It’s FAFSA (the new TGIF) is also reason for a bit of merriment on the Gresham Campus.
“We want to help students find funds for college, and FAFSA Fridays are one way we’re doing that,” says Luis Juarez, Manager, Outreach & Counseling, Financial Aid Office.
The College’s experts from the Financial Aid Office invite current and prospective students and their families to the computer lab in room AC2554 where they can get one-on-one help with FAFSA. FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, a necessary step to receiving college financial aid from federal and state governments. FAFSA Fridays are 1- 2 p.m., June 29, July 6, July 20, Aug. 3, Aug. 17, Sept. 7 and Sept. 21.
“Some people find the FAFSA challenging, but our staff is knowledgeable and patient and we welcome any student who asks for our help,” adds Juarez. “The time to apply for the 2012-13 academic year financial aid is now. Students can save themselves time and stress by doing one very important thing – apply early. By applying for financial aid now, it will save some of the worry that often comes when students delay applying until late in the process.”
To join a TGIF party, students should bring their 2011 IRS tax returns, 2011 end-of-year pay stubs (if tax returns are not yet completed), current value of assets, social security number (and those of their parents if student is a dependent), driver’s license and alien registration card (if applicable).
