MHCC Fireplace Gallery Kicks Off
1st Art Show of the Academic Year
Posted September 24, 2012
Oil paintings by Jesa Townsend will kick off monthly art shows in the Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) Fireplace Gallery.
The show will run through Oct. 25 in the gallery located in the College Center/Student Union on the Gresham Campus, 26000 SE Stark St. The show is free and open to the public. Parking is free. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Townsend’s work has been featured in numerous publications and gained the support of a handful of galleries internationally. She is becoming as well known for her art as for her soulful jazz vocals. A classically trained musician, her paintings are all self-proclaimed labors of love done in her own distinct style.
Townsend specializes in abstract art, bringing an impressionistic point of view to life through the creation of vivid and extreme color combinations. She says her work is most influenced by her humanitarian experiences and extensive travels.
“Transitional moments depicted in strong colors are the cerebral playground where all of my paintings begin,” notes Townsend. “My work alludes to the lull between words, between breaths or between sentences. The suggestions, the sensations, the anticipation, all play along in the fruition of my concepts.”
