Posted October 23, 2012
Come enjoy Mt. Hood Community College’s (MHCC) Dorian Harris Halloween Classic volleyball tournament Oct. 26-27 on the Gresham Campus, 2600 S.E. Stark Street. Watch players at 9 a.m. Saturday as they dig, set and spike while dressed as monsters, ghouls and other scary or not-so-scary characters.
In a new twist to this fun annual event, “We have added a community service project to the tournament, called Serving, Socks and Stew,” says Chelsie Speer, head volleyball coach. “We are asking all the teams and fans to participate in a canned food, socks and underwear drive.”
Volleyball players will fill grocery bags with the items which will be delivered to various shelters and food banks in the community. Preferred items include hearty soups, stews and high protein non-perishable foods, new wool socks and new men’s and women’s underwear. Fans who bring in a can of hearty soup or stew will receive a $1 discount off the ticket price; those who donate new wool socks or underwear will be admitted free.
Ticket information: Adult two-day pass, $10; adult one-day pass, $6; student two-day pass, $5; student one-day pass, $3; seniors/military two-day pass, $4; seniors/military, one-day pass, $3; children under 12, two-day pass $2 and children under 12, one-day pass, $1.
