Study Abroad with MHCC
Posted March 29, 2013
Imagine strolling the streets of Florence, Italy, admiring the architecture, sculptures and fountains. Discuss art with Florentine painters in their studios, explore the shops near Via Cavour and visit the Ponte Vecchio, a 14th century bridge spanning the River Arno. This amazing opportunity is made possible through Mt Hood Community College's (MHCC) study abroad program. The registration deadline is June 7.
Participants in the 11-week program will depart Portland Sept. 27 and return Dec. 13, 2013. The program includes an apartment with a kitchen for meal preparation, day trips, passes to the major museums, Internet and other amenities. Optional meal plans and airfare packages are also available. This molto bene (very good!) learning and travel adventure is just $7,895 plus airfare (based on 15 – 19 participants) and is considerably less than similar programs offered by many other colleges and universities. Participants must have completed at least 12 college credit hours with at least a 2.5 grade point average (GPA), but need not be current or former MHCC students.
A Variety of Classes Offered
Course offerings include creative writing, introduction to art history, introduction to film, Italian 101, Italian life and culture, public speaking and several others. Students must register for a minimum of 12 credits (tuition cost not included).
Fluency in Italian is not required. However, if students wish to familiarize themselves with the language before going abroad, they may register for Italian 101 and 102 at MHCC. Check mhcc.edu/registration for more information.
A Great Way to Earn Credit and See the World
From one student who studied in Florence: "This was hands down the best experience of my life. Every minute I wasn't in class, I was living like a Florentine, exploring the city and making friends with locals and other students. Besides having some great adventures, the experience gave me a better appreciation for people and cultures outside of Portland and the U.S."
Other study abroad programs offered through MHCC include Costa Rica, England, Japan, Mexico and Spain.
