Prints on Exhibit at MHCC Fireplace Gallery
Posted: April 25, 2013
The Fireplace Gallery at Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) will host a free art exhibit, “Natural Reliefs,” by Kelli MacConnell, May 2 – 30.
The Fireplace Gallery is located in the Student Union on the Gresham Campus, 26000 S.E. Stark Street. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Parking on all MHCC campuses is free, no permit required.
“Captivated by the wilderness, MacConnell’s relationship with nature perpetually stimulates her imagination, facilitating her process of translating her natural surroundings into richly detailed prints,” according to the artist’s resume.
Her current body of work focuses on the Pacific Northwest landscape. “These prints are of the expansive and diverse environment that is Oregon,” says MacConnell. “With the simple use of a line, contrast of black and white and sometimes a minimal use of color, I strive to create exhilarating compositions inspired by the natural world.”
“People ask, ‘Why a print, why not a painting?’ Not only do I enjoy the act of using tools to shape something but also it’s the surprise factor, a mystery that unfolds. There are a lot of unpredictables involved and the spontaneity of the process demands energy, improvisation, gesture, expressiveness and directness.”
