MHCC Foundation Auction & Dinner Raises $180,000
in Support of Students
Posted June 3, 2013
The Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) Foundation’s annual Power of the Dream auction and dinner was a huge success by all measures.
The May 4 event raised nearly $180,000 – more than the previous year – in support of MHCC students on their journey to a college education and unlimited opportunities.
With the theme, Education…a Journey to Opportunity, the auction offered great trips (Bali, the Oregon Coast and Africa, for example), many one-of-a-kind pieces of art, creative gift baskets and many other items.
Nancy Jaksich, from Suburban Auto Group, serves as president of the MHCC Foundation. She said her company “has always been a sponsor at the auction and dinner,” but decided this year to raffle off a car. “Since Suburban sells both Ford and Chevrolet, it made sense to give the winner a choice!” A limited number of raffle tickets were available, at $100 apiece. The winner could choose a credit voucher for a 2013 Chevrolet Spark or a 2013 Ford Fiesta.
Many guests and volunteers in attendance at the event anxiously waited to find out who had won a brand new car. The winning raffle ticket was purchased by Leisa Beck, an MHCC employee in the Human Resources department, who was at the movies that night with her family.
“I didn’t find out that I had won until I was headed to bed at 11:30 p.m. and I just happened to check my phone,” Beck says. “One of my co-workers had sent a text message telling me that I had won! I chose the Fiesta and it’s a super fun and sporty little car to drive.”
Casey Ryan, vice president /branch manager Riverview Community Bank, served as emcee for the evening. “The auction and dinner went exceptionally well,” says Ryan, who also serves on the Foundation board. “The community support that the foundation receives is incredible. Without the support of the community and the hard-working volunteers, this event would not enjoy the success that it has.”
