    Introduction to Perioperative Nursing - Course Number RNX27

    RNX27 is an introduction to the fundamentals of perioperative nursing practice for the Registered Nurse who wishes to explore the practice of perioperative nursing. Basic concepts are introduced, with the focus on optimal outcomes for the perioperative patient. This course is an introduction only and is not designed to replace hospital-based orientation or perioperative intern / residence programs.

    RNX 27 is a stand-alone course offering consisting of 30 hours of didactic and 30 hours of lab (no clinical component). This course is open to Registered nurses and nursing students. The course is usually offered twice a year: The course is offered twice a year -fall and spring quarters. Class size is limited.

    Sterile Processing Technician

    Course Number - AHX20

    Note: This course is currently offered every other year. The next offering will be Fall Term 2019. 7 Credits.

    Sterile Processing Technician Overview
    Sterile Processing Technicians process, store, and distribute medical and surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment for operating rooms and other areas of hospitals and healthcare facilities. They understand and apply principles and methods of sterilization and infection control. This course provides instruction for students who wish to function in entry-level positions in Central Service and Sterile Processing departments of healthcare facilities. Based on the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) curriculum, the course is designed for students who wish to obtain certification for Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST). The course includes 60 hours of didactic instruction and 30 hours of lab instruction. Please note: 400 hours of hands-on experience verified by employer is also required for eligibility for the IAHSCMM exam. This course does not fulfill that requirement.

    Prerequisites

    • RD090 and WR090, each with a grade of "C" or better; or placement above stated course levels (College Placement Test).

    Please note- high school diploma or GED may be required for employment.
    Must be physically able to lift heavy instrument trays. Good verbal communication skills required.
