• How to Get Started

  • Welding Technology is an open entry program that begins only in the fall and winter term. Students need to be aware that winter term entry may delay program completion by one or more terms and may adversely affect timely transition into the AAS credential option. No students will be accepted for a spring term start.

Students can simply register on a first come, first served basis depending on space available after meeting the academic prerequisite requirement. Registration for fall term begins in May. Follow these simple steps to register.

Step 1: Step 1: Apply for general admission to MHCC at http://my.mhcc.edu/ICS/admissions if you do not have a current record with MHCC. You must select Welding Technology Cert as your major to be able to register for welding classes. If you have a different major and wish to take some welding classes, you may do so by seeking instructor approval.

Step 2: Meet the minimum academic prerequisite requirements in reading, writing and mathematics which can be satisfied by placement into RD115, WR115, and MTH060 (or equivalent transfer courses demonstrated through official transcripts on file at MHCC).

For information about the placement scores, visit https://www.mhcc.edu/cpt.

Transfer Students: Applicants who have coursework from another institution must submit a transcript evaluation prior to open registration. Evaluations could take up to six weeks, or longer during peak registration. For more information, visit http://mhcc.edu/transfertomhcc.

Step 3: Choose your classes from the program curriculum outline. Students will register for the same section numbers of each course when there is more than one section listed.
