Gas Tungsten Arc Welder Certificate - How to Get Started

You can start the gas tungsten arc welder certificate program any term. Students admitted to MHCC can sign up for classes in the program after reading, writing, and math placement requirements have been met.

Placement Requirements Needed to Get Started in This Program

After completing the placement requirements, you can sign up for classes. First-term students should sign up for these classes:

  • IMTL128 Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)/Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Theory
  • IMTL129 Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)/Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Lab
  • IMTL152 Welding Processes and Procedures
  • IMTL163 Welding Certification Preparation Lab
  • IMTL171 Welding Certificate Program Lab I
  • IMTL172 Welding Certificate Program Lab II
  • IMTL173 Welding Certificate Program Lab III

Additional Program Costs

In addition to Mt. Hood Community College tuition, fees, and textbooks, there is a Required Tool List you’ll need to purchase to complete your coursework. These tools will be yours to keep when you start your career. Several of the courses in this program also require an additional fee, most under $100.

Textbooks per term can range from $600-$1000, and can be purchased online through the college bookstore.
