Underage Enrollment
If you are under 18 and will not have a high school diploma or GED® when starting classes at MHCC, there are some extra steps you need to take before you can register for classes.
Admissions for Students Age 14-15
- Complete the general admission form. It's free and only takes a few minutes.
- After you receive a welcome email with your student ID, complete the college placement test (CPT).
- Email [email protected] for the underage application and admissions documents.
- Once all paperwork is turned in, call 503-491-7421 or email high school services to set up an underage readiness meeting.
In your underage readiness meeting, we will talk to you about how ready you are for college. You'll learn about the student code of conduct and what's expected of you as a college student. This meeting and the papers you give us will help us decide if you can register for classes.
Admissions for Students Age 16 -17
- Complete the general admission form online.
- After you receive a welcome email with your student ID, complete the college placement test.
- Register for courses by logging in to the MyMHCC portal. You can also meet with an academic advisor to help register for courses.
Students under 18 Released from Required School
If you're under 18 and don't have to go to school anymore, you have to give a release from compulsory attendance form to the admissions and records office. You can get this form from the school district where you live.
Things to Know Before Applying
- The classes you take at MHCC will be recorded on your permanent college record. Jumping into college courses too early could bring down your college GPA and affect your chances for future financial aid help and transferring options.
- If you're under 14, you can't sign up for classes that give you college credit.
- If you're under the age of 18, you won't be seen as a full college student for financial aid purposes, which means you won't get help paying for tuition. You'll have to pay for classes on your own. Check out our tuition rates on our website.
- Tuition and fees need to be paid on the first day of the term. If you sign up for classes after the term starts, you will need to pay on the same day you register.
