The Study of Crime

Criminal justice is a term that includes the study of laws, procedures, institutions, and policies that are involved before, during, and after a crime occurs.

Program Outcomes

After completing this program you'll be able to:

• Explain how the criminal justice system functions and fits into U.S. society.
• Compare and contrast the various theories of why people offend.
• Compare and contrast the structure and function of the federal and state court system.
• Compare and contrast the various goals of punishment.
• Explain the value of prison treatment programs as well as community corrections.

Courses and Curriculum

While pursuing the Criminal Justice Administration major, you can complete courses toward the Social Science and elective requirements in your associate degrees. Most of the courses available can easily be transferred to a four-year institution so you can go on to earn your bachelor’s degree if you choose to do so. Work with an advisor to make sure you are taking the right classes.
