Industrial Automation Certificate - How to Get Started
The industrial automation certificate program begins during the fall term. Are you starting classes in another term? Don’t worry! There still may be courses you can start taking if you’re starting college in a different term. Please contact the program advisors for details. Any student admitted to MHCC can sign up for classes in the program after reading, writing, and math placement requirements have been met. Registration for the fall term is open from May through September.
Complete the MHCC Application Process
It is easy to get started at MHCC. Simply follow the steps in our new student checklist. These include filling out the admission form, figuring out how to pay for college through programs like the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) or the Oregon Student Aid Application (ORSAA), connecting with our staff to choose classes, and more.

Sign up for classes
After completing the placement requirements, you can sign up for classes. First-term students should sign up for these classes:
- MEC231 Introduction to Programmable Logic Controllers (four credits)
- MEC232 Intermediate Programmable Logic Controllers (five credits)
- MEC251 Robotics I (three credits)
- MEC252 Robotics II - Vision Systems (three credits)

Additional Program Costs
In addition to Mt. Hood Community College tuition, fees, and textbooks, there is a required tool list you’ll need to purchase to complete your coursework. These tools will be yours to keep when you start your career. Several of the courses in this program also require an additional fee, ranging from $15-$150 depending on the course.
Textbooks per term can range from $600-$1000, and can be purchased online through the college bookstore.
