Sociology - Program Details

Sociology is the study of human social life, patterns, and change. In this program you will learn all about how people relate to each other and behave within social groups. Oftentimes a degree in Sociology can set you up to become a great organizational leader after you’ve completed your education.

Studying Human Society

At MHCC, you will take courses such as general sociology, race relations, gender and society, sociology research, and more.

Program Outcomes

After completing this program you'll be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of key sociological concepts and apply them to the real world.
  • Understand the connection between the individual and the broader society.
  • Describe major theoretical paradigms and methodological approaches of sociology.
  • Apply sociological concepts, principles, and methodologies to contemporary social problems and other sociological phenomena.
  • Apply knowledge of human behavior and social phenomena to social and community issues.
  • Critically analyze contemporary social institutions.
  • Critically analyze systems of inequality and promote social understanding.

Courses and Curriculum

While you pursue your sociology major you can complete courses toward the Social Science and elective requirements for your associate degree. Most of the courses available can easily be transferred to a four-year institution so you can go on to earn your bachelor’s degree if you choose to do so. Work with an advisor to make sure you are taking the right classes.
